Dear Transformers 3: Avada Kedavra! Sincerely, Harry Potter

Hollywood, if you were planning to conjure up any more movies this year, you can just forget it. Can ’em. You’re never going to top Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, which opened today.
Hang up your movie magic wands, your work is done. Movies simply do not get better than this. I feel sorry for the rest of the movies that are out there right now. It’s not that they’re bad….it’s that this movie is EPIC.
It’s visually stunning, and the story evolves to a perfect finish. I cried, I clapped, I held my breath. I was at the edge of my seat for most of the movie. The effects are spectacular. There is a dragon that is the most realisic CG creature I have ever seen in a movie. But as Greek-tragic classic as the story is, this movie is all about the characters that we have grown to know and love over the last 10 years.
My youngest daughter was the same age as Harry, Hermione, and Ron when the first Harry Potter books came out. As each of the HP stories was released, my daughter aged right along with the characters–it’s like they all grew up together. It was fitting that I saw the last movie today with my daughter, who is now 20. Seeing those kids looking so grown up on the screen today, and knowing that this was the last time I’d see them together in a movie, was a bit like saying good-bye to my own kids as they move forward into adulthood. What a great ride it has been.
Harry, Hermione, Ron, I’ll miss you like I’ll miss all my kids’ friends. It has been an honor to watch you grow up, mature, and save the world. The Boy Who Lived will continue to live on in our hearts forever.
Movie makers: the bar has been raised to an all new high. You’re going to have to make some real movie magic to come up with something better.
